About OpenThings
OpenThings stands for smart home devices that protect your privacy and give you the freedom to decide for yourself. Our database only displays devices that use open standards and operate locally. That means no data goes to the cloud. Your home remains private, and you retain control.
Many smart home devices require proprietary apps and closed systems to fully utilize all features. These platforms transmit data to large corporations like Google or Amazon, which store, analyze, and often use it for their own purposes without the users being aware. OpenThings puts an end to that. We only list devices that work without a cloud connection and remain directly in your home.
Open Standards
The devices in our database are based on standards such as Zigbee, Thread, Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, or Matter. These technologies ensure that devices from different manufacturers work together. You can use open source platforms like Home Assistant, OpenHAB, Domoticz, ioBroker, or Homebridge and are not dependent on a single manufacturer’s apps.
